Recently I read the column "Chief Learning Officer: An Emerging Role" written by Naresh Purushotham, director/CLO of Nuveda.
He defines CLO's role as three parts.
1) Business Manager with responsibility for driving a learning culture
2) Leader responsible for development of leaders across the company
3) Leader responsible for performance of employees
